Art is the mimesis of nature.--Aristotle

Of the more than 20 songs that Tori sang at the concert, the ones that were particularly striking for me were "Sugar," "You Can Bring Your Dog," "Cornflake Girl," "10,000 Oceans," and "Hotel." I think that part of the reason that Tori played so many songs was because they were being recorded for Boots & Legs--Tori's offering of bootlegs of the ADP shows available on her website--www.toriamos.com.
It's hard for me right now to critique the show, possibly because I don't have enough aesthetic distance (the distance required to appreciate a work of art) from Tori. She is one of my heroes and almost nothing she does could be wrong. I frequently found myself cheering for her song choices and was pretty surprised when she played not one but four songs for the encore, when everyone rushed to the edge of the stage and I had to elbow a few people just to retain my space. Of the encore songs, "Precious Things" and "Bouncing off Clouds" had me swaying my hips and kissing my loved one with sheer joy.
Tori was radiant in a shimmery royal blue pantsuit that almost hid her turquoise pumps. She was alternately one of her alter egos (Santa) and then herself, Tori. As Santa in the beginning, she moseyed around pouring margaritas for the other band members and played the songs listed below, including "Sugar."
The venue itself--the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia definitely left something to be desired as it was literally falling apart, however Tori and the band overcame the venue; the sound was terrific from where we were sitting in the front row to the right side of the stage. If Tori comes back to Philly her promoters should consider the Kimmel Center.
I kept hoping that she would play a particular b-side called "Walk to Dublin" and I was slightly disappointed that she not only didn't play it, but only played "Hey, Jupiter" from Boys for Pele, which is my favorite album of all time. In any case, "Sugar" was amazing and "Hotel" rocked like nothing else. Of the songs from Under the Pink, she played "Cloud on my Tongue" and "Cornflake Girl," which were excellent too.
